Key Concepts

This page will help you understand the basic building blocks of the PlayMakers platform — from projects and users to the tools provided for studios and communities.

1. Key Terms & Roles in PlayMakers

Understanding the basic roles and components in PlayMakers is essential before creating quests or rewards.

What is a Project?

A Project is the foundation of your PlayMakers setup. It represents your game, event, or community campaign. All quests, rewards, and user engagement happen inside your project. You manage each project from the Studio Dashboard.

Project Credits

Each project has a certain number of credits, depending on your selected plan.

  • By default, each new project starts with 100 credits.
  • The Free Plan gives you 5,000 credits.
  • You can view full pricing and plans here.

Credits are consumed when a user successfully completes a quest or the first stage of a staged quest.

You can also buy additional credits at any time: 1,000 credits = 1€.
This system helps keep things fair and scalable for different studio needs.

What is a User?

A User is a community member who connects to your project.
They can access quests via the Makers Hub or Discord, complete tasks, earn points, and claim rewards.

Who is the Project Owner?

The Project Owner is usually the studio admin or campaign manager.
They manage:

  • Creating quests & rewards
  • Monitoring participation
  • Reviewing redemptions

All done through the Studio Dashboard.

What is a Quest?

A Quest is a task or challenge a user completes to earn points.
Examples:

  • Follow an account
  • Watch a video
  • Play a game for 5 hours
  • Share content on social media

➡️ Quests are fully customizable. Learn more about quest setup here.

What is a Reward?

A Reward is what users get in return for completing quests and collecting points.
Examples:

  • In-game items
  • Digital badges
  • Discount codes
  • Custom roles

You define the reward value, type, and any extra info needed during claim.

What is a Quest Type?

A Quest Type defines the action format required by the quest.

Examples of Quest Types:

  • follow: follow a social media account
  • like_post: like a post or video
  • videoStats: user shall submit a YouTube video they own that performs above minimum criteria
  • webhook: quest validity is computed externally via a webhook

Each type needs different parameters. See the full list on Questing System

What is a Reward Type?

A Reward Type defines the format of the reward being claimed.

Examples of Reward Types:

  • manual: you approve manually (e.g., key giveaways)
  • webhook: automatic approve via webhook

You’ll choose the reward type when creating a new reward from the Studio Dashboard.
